Soviet Renault-Mgebrov Armored Car captured by the Germans in the railway station of Narva, Estonia, March 4, 1918.

Soviet Renault-Mgebrov Armored Car captured by the Germans in the railway station of Narva, Estonia, March 4, 1918.

The occupation of Estonia by German Empire occurred during the latter stages of the Great War. It began with the occupation of the islands Latvian Baltic Sea (October 11, 1917). The last to be Latvian town occupied by the Germans, who completed the conquest of the country, was Narva, on March 4, 1918.

The units of Russian-Latvian Red Guards who occupied the city, fled to Soviet territory across the river Narva. These troops were integrated into the 6th Rifle Division (Gatchina Infantry Division), created on May 3, 1918 in the St. Petersburg area. In November 1918 the Red Army, with the 6th Division in front, attacked Narva, ushering in the War of Independence of Estonia.

During the campaign of the German occupation of Latvia took prisoner more than 20,000 Russian-Latvian Red Guards, along with the corresponding material of war, including warships and armored cars, among which was the Renault-Mgebrov of photography.

Note: This photograph circulating on the Internet with captions that put the scene in Rostov, Latvia, etc., which was obviously a mistake.
